To follow up on my previous message I just want to make a few comments about St. Anthony`s in the 60`s when my family was active in the church and it`s mission.
I was in second grade when we got the word on Fri. December 22nd 1963 that our President was killed.
We saw the trauma all over the place from our parents, the teachers, and the neighborhood. My teacher was Sister Domenica. She was great, caring.
In 3rd grade my teacher was Sister Theresa. The ultimate teacher of handwriting. To this day I value the drills she put us through to assure that our skills were complete.
I actually can identify people who have had the benefit of a Catholic education from their handwriting skills.
Then there was Sister Benedicta, the sister in charge.
She assured that there was discipline and order with the students.
Her methods were legendary and I will challenge anyone to post a rememberance.
I had my First Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Anthony`s with ceromonies that I remember as being magical with everyone in the family there to support.
They had the greatest singers in the chior.
I hope they remember who they were and read this.

Anyway,
There is a whole lot more to write. And I will!

I attended St. Anthony`s from 1961-1969.
All of my relatives made up the fabric of Cramer Hill and were active parishoners.
My teachers were sister Annette, Marie, Robertina, Dorcas and others.
I am happy to see that St. Anthonys is still an anchor in such a difficult environment.
I could write a book, and probably will, about the role St. Anthonys played in all of our lives in the 60`s.
Please continue to make certain that this rock of faith in the neighborhood is never diminished. It`s too important for the most valuable resource we have.
 Our children.
Seek out federal funding to fortify the continued operation of the school and it`s activities.
The money is there. Seek out people who know how to find it.
The neighborhood and the people I knew in the 60`s are gone now.
But, I see a new neighborhood of youth that needs the same thing we had the benefit of receiving.
The protection of our parents in faith and the structure of the church and it`s lessons.
It`s as much a religious theme as a practical and humanistic one.
My neighborhood was everything to me. It kept us safe and sheilded us from all of the negative influences that damaged everything around us.

I lived on Garfield Avenue just off 27th Street and did everything there was to do in the 60`s. I was 5 in 1960 and 15 when we moved in 1970. The greatest of ages. Talk about what influenced ones life!!!

My 7 year old now attends a Catholic School in a Parish
identical to St. Anthony`s in Astoria, NY.

Well, i attended ST. Anthony`s from K-8 graduated in 1998. i have some great memories of my years spent there, we had come such along way in my time there, that when i left i knew things were only gonna get better. And it seems that i was right. St. Anthony`s helped mold me and instilled great morals and values in me that i still practice and help me become the person i am today. Thank You!

I have just viewed your entire wonderful inspirational humanitarian site.  To see all you do in regards to loving one another and helping those in need is really what LIFE is all about!  I have volunteered most of my life but had no idea what my neighbors were likewise doing until I was given the address to your site.  God Bless you all!  Keep up the GOOD WORK!  I am humbled, whereas sometimes  I may grow weary over the plight of humanity as a whole and sometimes God lets me see an oasis of hope such as yourselves!

Hi. I was once a member of the church many years age, but I lefted becuase it was no longer the church I grow up with. The masses were not the same, and the priest would tell you that if you were sorry for your sins then why bother going to comfession, I was upset with that and all the changes. So I went to St. Peter`s Church in Merchantville, because they celebrated mass the way it was when I was a child. I also went to the school for three years, but when I went there it was nothing like I see and read about now. From what I see and read both the school and church are headed in a good direction. I`m happy to hear that the masses are now back to the way I remeber, and that the school is better in the way of teaching for the kids, then it was when I went there. Maybe someday I`ll be around for a vist.
